Diversifying the Child Maltreatment Sciences
- Summary:
Even as minority and marginalized families are over-represented in the child welfare system, Black, Indigenous, and scholars of color are grossly under-represented in academic and advocacy leadership. This half-day virtual event is designed for scholars of color juniors, seniors, post-bacs, and current professionals considering a PhD in a child maltreatment-related field. The event will highlight various graduate programs around the country, including a diverse range of disciplines that contribute to the child maltreatment sciences (e.g., psychology, biosciences, law, education, and health professions). The event will also include panels focused on available experiences in the child maltreatment sciences, how to prepare a competitive graduate school application, the graduate school and postdoctoral experience, and available funding opportunities for scholars in training. The day will conclude with a panel of career experts from various fields, including an opportunity for attendees to engage with their expert of choice in small group discussion via breakout rooms.
